Let it be known…

Today, the Daily Star published a jeer at the action that some are taking to protest the Common Core by skipping school on November 18th. Some are seeing this action as anti-school, and there has been talk in some of the online forums regarding this agenda that has represented hostility towards schools and teachers.

While I, personally, am neither against the Nov. 18th protest day, nor do I see it as entirely misguided, it has come to my attention that some of the negativity associated with the protest is being mischaracterized as aligned with the goals of Oneonta Area for Public Education. I encourage each member to take actions that are in his or her best interests, and in which you truly believe. Whichever action we choose we must do so with a positive goal in mind.

Oneonta Area for Public Education neither supports nor criticizes the November 18th protest day. Simply, as a matter of record, it should be known by the public that the November 18th protest day is being organized by independent entities which are entirely separate from Oneonta Area for Public Education.  Furthermore, the Nov. 18th “opt out” day has nothing to do with the concept of opting out of excessive testing that is promoted by oa4pe.
